ZeroWaste.Org Volunteer Agreement
Thank you for volunteering with Live Zero Waste Inc., doing business as ZeroWaste.Org ("the Organization"). This agreement describes the terms of your volunteer service. Please read it carefully. By typing your full legal name and submitting this form, you are signing this agreement electronically and confirming that you agree to it.
1. Voluntary participation
I am offering my services as a volunteer of my own free will. I understand that my volunteer work is unpaid and that I am not entitled to any wages, salary, benefits, workers' compensation, or other compensation for my service.
2. No employment relationship
I understand that this agreement does not create an employment, agency, partnership, or contractor relationship between me and the Organization. Either the Organization or I may end my volunteer service at any time, for any reason, with or without notice.
3. Volunteer conduct
I agree to:
- Act honestly, respectfully, and lawfully in all of my volunteer activities;
- Follow the Organization's reasonable instructions, policies, and code of conduct;
- Represent the Organization accurately, and not make commitments or public statements on its behalf unless authorized to do so;
- Treat fellow volunteers, staff, partners, and members of the public with respect, and refrain from harassment, discrimination, or abusive behavior.
4. Confidentiality
In the course of volunteering, I may have access to non-public information, including information about donors, members, supporters, staff, partners, and the Organization's operations. I agree to keep this information confidential, to use it only as needed to perform my volunteer work, and not to disclose, copy, or retain it after my volunteer service ends. This obligation continues after my service concludes.
5. Work product and intellectual property
I agree that any content, materials, or other work I create for the Organization as part of my volunteer service — including writing, graphics, photographs, designs, code, or other works — is created for the Organization's benefit. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I assign to the Organization all rights, title, and interest in that work product, and I waive any moral rights in it. Where assignment is not permitted, I grant the Organization a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use it.
6. Personal data and privacy
I agree to handle any personal information I encounter while volunteering in accordance with the Organization's Privacy Policy and applicable law, to access only the information I reasonably need for my volunteer work, and not to use it for any personal or unauthorized purpose.
7. Technology and account security
In the event that I volunteer in an online capacity, I agree to keep any accounts, passwords, or access the Organization provides secure; to use the Organization's systems and tools only for authorized volunteer purposes; and to promptly report any suspected security issue, data loss, or unauthorized access.
8. Assumption of risk and release of liability
I understand that volunteer activities may involve risks, including in any in-person or field activities I choose to participate in. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I voluntarily assume the risks associated with my volunteer service, and I release and agree not to sue the Organization and its directors, officers, employees, and agents for any claim, injury, loss, or damage arising out of my volunteer activities — except for claims caused by the Organization's gross negligence or willful misconduct. I agree to notify the Organization promptly of any injury or incident that occurs during my service.
9. Media release
I grant the Organization permission to use my name, likeness, voice, and any images or recordings of me captured during volunteer activities for the Organization's charitable, educational, and promotional purposes, without further compensation. I may withdraw this permission for future use by notifying the Organization in writing.
10. Term and termination
This agreement applies for the duration of my volunteer service. My obligations regarding confidentiality, intellectual property, and release of liability survive the end of my service.
11. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If any provision of this agreement is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full effect.
12. Entire agreement
This agreement is the entire understanding between me and the Organization regarding my volunteer service and replaces any prior discussions or agreements on that subject.
13. Electronic signature
I understand and agree that typing my full legal name and submitting this form constitutes my electronic signature, has the same legal effect as a handwritten signature, and confirms that I have read, understood, and agree to this agreement. I confirm that I am at least 18 years old, or that my parent or guardian is signing on my behalf.
